Fair Elections Ohio and HB 194

The initiative to repeal the "voter suppression" bill, HB 194 has begun.  This matter is greatly importance, as the bill changes many of Ohio's voting laws to make it harder for African-Americans to vote.

What is HB 194?

House Bill 194 was passed by the Ohio House of Representatives and Ohio Senate a few months ago.  The bill drastically changes voting laws in this state in the following ways:

  • Shortens mail-in voting from 5 to 3 weeks
  • Shortens in-person early voting from 5 weeks to 2 weeks
  • Eliminates early voting opportunities in the evenings, Saturday afternoons, and Sundays (especially right before the election)
  • Takes away party identification from third party candidates on the ballot
  • Requires minimum precinct sizes only in municipalities for longer lines in urban areas
  • Poll workers are not required to tell voters they are in the wrong precinct
  • Stops the county Board of Elections from sending absentee ballot applications to all voters

What can I do to help?

You can help by signing the petition to repeal HB 194.  If roughly 234,000 valid signatures of registered Ohio voters are collected, Ohio's voters will have the opportunity to vote on whether the law should remain in effect.  For more information, and to find out where you can sign the peititon, go to
