African American Legislators' Day

Since 1999, The Ohio Legislative Black Caucus Foundation has honored the memory of African American Legislators that have served in the Ohio General Assembly in conjunction with Black History Month. The Foundation celebrates African American Legislators' Day (AALD), which provides OLBC members the opportunity to acknowledge and celebrate the legacy of those that have come before them, while recognizing new and current OLBC members. Annually, AALD is held at the Ohio Statehouse with OLBC members and leaders of the General Assembly speaking at the occasion. Invited guest are graced with an inspirational performance by Grammy Nominated Central State University Choir and treated to an awesome soul food lunch. Internship Program

In addition to AALD, the OLBC Foundation also sponsors an internship program, that provides high school, undergraduate, and post-graduate students, with the opportunity to work in the OLBC Foundation office. The internship provides students with experience in four focus areas: PR and Marketing, Public Policy and Legislative Research, Event Planning, and Office Management. In recent years, the OLBC Foundation interns have come from Ohio State University, Kent State University and Central State University.

OLBC Emerging Leaders Program

The Ohio Legislative Black Caucus (OLBC) Emerging Leaders Program is committed to developing and cultivating our state’s emerging leaders in public service. OLBC is dedicated to facilitating a relationship with political and community leaders that will further the mission of the Ohio Legislative Black Caucus. Through dialogue and a commitment to mentoring, OLBC members will share their successes and failures with emerging leaders who are devoted to a future of public service to the African American community.

Each year, OLBC will host a week long summit that will provide emerging leaders around the state with an experience that will give them insight on the legislative and political sectors. Participants will meet with elected officials, legislative liaisons, and political figures to gain various perspectives. OLBC members will follow participants through their pursuit of public service and assist them in job placement based on their interests.

The purpose of the OLBC Emerging Leaders Program is to provide participants with guidance and development them into contributing leaders of the community. OLBC will use its resources to maximize the experience of participants and encourage them to reach their full potential.
